Fertility Studies

Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine Fertility Studies

Many studies have been done to show the efficacy of using Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) to treat infertility. Provided below are the links to documents with details of several recent studies in this important field.

FEMALE INFERTILITY STUDIES:

Acupuncture & IVF (Paulus Study)

Title: Influence of acupuncture on the pregnancy rate in patients who undergo assisted reproduction therapy

Objective: To evaluate the effect of acupuncture on the pregnancy rate in assisted reproduction therapy (ART) by comparing a group of patients receiving acupuncture treatment shortly before and after embryo transfer with a control group receiving no acupuncture. See complete study

Acupuncture & Female Infertility
(Chang, Rosenwaks Study)

Title: Role of acupuncture in the treatment of
female infertility

and clinical data in the utilization of acupuncture in the treatment
of female infertility. See

Using Acupuncture Instead Of Hcg In Ovulation Induction (Zhejiang Medical University Study)

Title: Substitution of Acupuncture for HCG in
Ovulation Induction

Objectives: By using human menopausal gonadotropin
(HMG) and human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG), fairly good clinical
therapeutic efficacy has been obtained in the treatment of infertility.
However, difficulties are brought about due to the ovarian hyperstimulation
syndrome (OHSS) easily induced by these two drugs. Therefore, we
attempted to use acupuncture instead of HCG in the induction of
ovulation from 1989 to 1992, and satisfactory therapeutic effect
was achieved as reported in the following. See complete study

Reduction Of Blood Flow Impedance With Electro-Acupuncture

Successful in-vitro fertilization (IVF) and
embryo transfer demand optimal endometrial receptivity at the time
of implantation. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether Electro-Acupuncture
can reduce a high impedance in the uterine arteries. Read

MALE FACTOR INFERTILITY:

Acupuncture & Moxa (Gurfinkle, Cedenho Study)

Title:Effects of acupuncture and moxa treatment
in patients with semen abnormalities

Objective: To evaluate the effect of Chinese Traditional
Medicine, acupuncture and moxa treatment, on the semen quality in
patients with semen abnormalities. See
complete study

Sperm Quality Studies

These abstracts represent various studies using
Chinese medicine to effect sperm parameters of males suffering
from subfertility.

Influence Of Acupuncture On Male Infertility

Classic therapies are usually ineffective in
the treatment of patients with very poor sperm density. The aim
of this study was to determine the effect of acupuncture on these
males. Read complete study
