Dampness

One consequence of damaging the middle burner is that a byproduct called dampness is often created.

Dampness can weaken digestion, so be sure that you chew your food thoroughly. Chewing is the first step in the digestive process, and the one we have the most control over. Remember, your intestines don’t have teeth!

Symptoms of Dampness in the Body:

  1. Feelings of heaviness in the body and tiring easily
  2. Water retention in all or parts of the body. Examples are edema, excess mucus, tumors, cysts, parasites, yeast infections (such as Candida), excess body weight, and a thick and /or greasy tongue coating
  3. Foggy or unclear thinking
  4. Cloudy urine
  5. Sticky stools
  6. Gas and Bloating

Examples of Foods that Drain Dampness:

  1. Brown Rice
  2. Barley
  3. All legumes, especially Aduki, Fava, and Kidney Beans
  4. Rye
  5. Amaranth
  6. Pumpkin
  7. Vinegar

Examples of Foods that Contribute to Dampness:

  1. Refined Sugar
  2. Dairy Products
  3. Processed Foods
  4. Refined Flours; including Pastas, Breads, and Pastries
  5. Cold, Raw Foods
  6. Cold Drinks
